I have here a very unusual item - this is a vintage Mercury Comet key blank, BUT this is not the typical key blank. The head of this key is about 1/2" thick and the back of it is spring loaded and pushes in. I've tried extensively to find out exactly what the purpose was to having this type of doohickey as the key head. I've emailed Comet clubs and posted on other vintage car forums and no one can tell me what this is. My dad was guessing that it's a coin or token holder. However, the only coin that really fits is a dime and it will only hold maybe 4 dimes.

The condition is good - some of the white paint in the logo is worn away.

Anyhow, I figured that this is a very interesting, hard to find (if not impossible to find) and "must have" collectible for a Mercury Comet and classic car enthusiast.

The Aston was expected to sell for more than $5 million, and the sale fell a bit short of that, registering a final bid of 2.6 million British pounds, or $4,114,760. Buyer's premiums raise the total sale price to $4.61 million.

New car sales in Cuba soured by 400-percent markups

Mon, 06 Jan 2014

While most analysts expected Cuba's lift of a decades-long ban on the sale of new cars to come with an asterisk or five, few could have predicted that the internationally hailed move would immediately turn out to be a mirage. Private car sales in Cuba have been heavily regulated by the government since 1959, and imports had been banned almost entirely. On Jan.
