Savvy Module (False Alarm Suppression) for Valentine V1 radar detectors

Keep your attention where it belongs.  SAVVY automatically turns down the volume of your V1 radar detector's alerts at low speeds.  There is a thumb wheel control to set your speed threshold.  Below your set point, the audio comes through on V1's muted volume.  Above the threshold, normal loudness  is heard (set with V1's control knob).

SAVVY stays basically out of sight down by your steering column.  This replaces the Lighter adapter as the V1 power source, or "hidden-wire" installations.  Just plug SAVVY into the OBD (On Board diagnostic) port, standard on every vehicle built since January 1, 1996, then plug V1's power cord into one of the two RJ-11 jacks (the other works with the Concealed Display or other V1 accessories).  The thumb wheel can be set between 15 and 65 mph.  There are 8 settings total between the speeds.

Land Rover testing electric Defender 110 pickup

Mon, 12 Aug 2013

Land Rover has begun testing an electric version of the Land Rover Defender first shown at the 2012 Geneva motor show. The electric Defender prototype is in service at the Eden Project in Cornwall, U.K., a complex of several large transparent domes that house multiple artificially maintained environments containing thousands of rare plants, and is a popular visitor attraction. At the moment the electric Defender isn't exactly tearing through the Amazon rainforest, but the work it's doing is nevertheless a good approximation of how quite a lot of Defenders are used in real life -- at least in terms of speed and duration of use.

Nissan Leaf owner arrested for stealing electricity

Thu, 05 Dec 2013

File this under a problem we’ll see more of in the future: An Atlanta Nissan Leaf owner was arrested for stealing five, count ‘em, five cents-worth of electricity from his child’s middle school last month, according to NBC 11 Alive. Kaveh Kamooneh was at Chamblee Middle School where his son was playing tennis. Kamooneh saw the open outlet and figured he’d grab a few electrons while he watched the game.

Salon Privé 2011: Night Shift

Thu, 17 Mar 2011

Salon Prive does a Night Shift for the Pommery Picnic It may be a bit of an exagerration to say that Salon Privé – one of our favourite ‘Car’ outings – is going to include a night shift in 2011 – but almost. Salon Prive’s move from the Hurlingham in Chelsea out to the less central – but more hospitable – Duke of Northumberland’s gaff at Syon Park means there’s room to expand the event, so we’re getting treated to the ‘Pommery Picnic’ on the Friday evening – 7pm ’til 11pm. As we never fail to mention when we bang on about Salon Prive, it’s just like a Garden Party in a wealthy friend’s house where he just happens to have littered the grounds with the world’s greatest cars.
