This is a vintage NuVue vehicle mirror with built in Spotlight.  This is from a restorers estate sale in dry New Mexico.  I see nothing cracked, broken or bent on this.  I jumpered the lamp to a battery momentarily and it lit up.  The head swivels with proper tension on the mount.  It is driver quality since it is pitted (or it can be rechromed).  The top and sides of the top fluted cover are in good condition with bright shiny reflective chrome.  The pits are on the bottom half sides and underneath and on any lips anywhere moisture would collect (please look closely at the pictures, the camera flash washout and reflective surfaces tends to hide the pits).  I took it apart to check for damage and everything comes apart like it should with good threads.  The mirror glass needs to be replaced, the good thing is that it is not broken so it is good for a pattern and mounts between flanges so it comes right out.  Any good glass shop can cut a new one for a few bucks.  The serrations on the mount are in good undamaged condition so this can be adjusted to any angle for mounting and the tightening bolt and threads are in good condition.  The wire is undamaged, it mounts on a screw lug connector inside so it can easily be replaced with any length wire you want.  All in all except for pits and mirror a very decent vintage accessory.  I just need to pass it on to someone who can use it so NO RESERVE sold as is.  Buyer pays actual shipping cost with no handling charges and I will combine shipping when possible.  This can fit in a USPS Medium Flat Rate Box.  Please email any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking.

Video: Jaguar's Julian Thomson on the importance of design values

Tue, 30 Oct 2012

Jaguar's Head of Advanced Design, Julian Thomson, appeared at this month's PSFK Conference in London giving a talk on design values. Thomson's talk, ‘Concepting Dreams, Making Reality Happen', dealt with questions of creating a design story as well as how Jaguar uses the value of its heritage while keeping things original and new. Thomson – the man behind the 2010 C-X75 and the recently revealed F-Type – said, "You can't get a good design story if you don't look at your heritage, where you came from, where your values came from." He went on to discuss the ‘sad years of Jaguar', from around 1968 to 2004 where Jaguar was too timid to develop and "essentially made the same-looking car." He put this down to a reluctance on Jaguar's part to move too far away from its successful models and, quite interestingly, because "not only did we start doing market research, we started asking Americans what they wanted." Video lets you experience the 2013 Range Rover reveal event

Wed, 12 Sep 2012

The recent public unveiling of the 2013 Range Rover confirmed what earlier reports suggested: The newest version of the SUV has emerged lighter and more efficient than its predecessors, but hasn't sacrificed the performance or luxury that built the brand's reputation. The Range Rover's all-aluminum unibody structure has a lot to do with this. Aluminum helps cut the weight of the vehicle's body by 39 percent.
