Faralli and Mazzanti Antas V8

Exhibited the other side of the border from Villa d'Este at the Top Marques exhibition in Monaco, the Antas V8 is also the first car created entirely in-house by Farralli and Mazzanti. Powered by a Maserati V8 - with carburettors - the Antas V8 is inspired both philosophically and materially by past 'special series'.

The revolutionary post-war design with slick slab sides and semi-covered wheels became a symbol of American optimism. "The inspiration for the Forty-Nine concept comes from the passion and excitement of the original, combined with the imagination of people across America who customized the car and turned it into what they thought a really great car should be," said J Mays, Ford's vice president of Design at the unveiling of the retro-futurist coupe back in 2001.

After all, the best Brawn could manage was fourth on the grid with Button, and a front row lock-out by Toyota, and Vettel’s third on the grid, seemed to strike a note of reality for this years F1 season. Those who condemned Brawn’s early success this year called it luck.
