Umeå Institute of Design degree show 2011

The annual graduation exhibit for the Umeå Institute of Design began last week. With just nine automotive students amongst those receiving honors, the concise yet elaborate degree show was unequivocally Scandinavian. Marking the show's opening, the two-day event featured a presentation by Richard Seymour (of Seymour Powell), student presentations, copious amounts of local cuisine, and a break-dancing interlude.

Volkswagen creates driving style-linked music app

VOLKSWAGEN has created a new smartphone that improvises its own music based on how the car is being driven. Working with British electronic musicians Underworld, Volkswagen has built the experimental ‘Play the Road’ app to help celebrate the launch of the seventh generation Golf GTI. It works by connecting to the car and using its own in-built accelerometer to analyse speed, engine revs, steering, throttle and braking inputs and the urgency of each to create a unique, ever-changing music that ranges from serene background chillout vibes to fast-paced electronica.

2012 Nissan Rogue stickers for $22,340

Nissan is starting the 2012 Rogue crossover at $22,340 (including destination) for the base front-wheel-drive S model. An all-wheel-drive configuration brings that cost to $23,590. The 2012 Rogue is available in two trim levels--S and SV--and with Special Edition, Premium and SL option packages.
