ATM's USED TOUGH RESTOMOD PULL DOWN!
AUTOTRUNKMOTOR
YOUR "ONE STOP SHOP" for REBUILT PULLDOWNS!
ATM's premium pull down options at the lowest price available with a restored OEM finish and the strongest structural, long term durability available to the industry that will far exceed any salvage yard replacement!
Modified to be rock solid for years of extreme climate conditions ATM reinforces a typical used, and structurally sound housing with metal, and high strength epoxy adding a brand new set of custom fitted nylon guides, and our popular ATM rebuilt motor and electronics package installed! This TDS engineered restomod adds a double layer of strength to the weak locations that will commonly crack and eventually split, creating a much stronger housing that can handle more impact and weight from heavy hatch lids on the Camaros and Firebirds.
Save $60 more and send us your core! Our Restomod pull downs delivers the most economical replacement pricing option, for when your motor housing is broken and guides are crumbled. Missing parts, heavy impact, or cutting damage to the parts other than the clear plastic motor housing and/or guides does not qualify for a full core return. The return for unqualified cores will be a fair market, prorated amount above your shipping cost. (See example picture 8 of an unqualified core)
If your pull down is not working or experiencing intermittent operation before you start slamming the lid to bypass the problem take advantage of this limited time offer to purchase one of our ATM high quality, refurbished pull downs as the resources are limited and pricing is based on core supplies. Slamming the hatch will only crush the many plastic discontinued parts in the unit and eventually snap the motor from the bracket leaving you with an expensive scrapped unit and a lid that will not close.
Save Yourself from the Plight of Failures and Give Your Fine GM Classic Car the Investment it Deserves
The classic "old school" GM engineering behind these pull down units will get very unpredictable after many years of heavy use and extreme climate conditions because these units are in need of complete overhaul at this point in time. Salvage units are experiencing shorter life spans as the 3rd generation Camaros and Firebirds have surpassed classic status. I would like to help you with making a wise investment. As a licensed aircraft mechanic and founder of Autotrunkmotor with currently hundreds of our units in the field installed in all the vehicle models that were engineered with automatic trunk lids in the 80's and 90's including Cadillac and Lincoln I have meticulously rebuilt all of the core electronic components for the Third Gen Firebird and Camaro units. This is a high end detailed refurbishment as each motor and related electronic parts have been deconstructed. Bad diodes are replaced and all internal wear parts are inspected/refurbished or replaced and then hand built to create a factory new reliability that will please the true auto enthusiast. Each latch assembly has been serviced and refinished with a corrosion protective process that retains a professional OEM factory appearance. Extra protection from dirt and oil is added to each wiring harness diode module and the plugs are custom tailored to fit the year of your car. The unit is assembled and hand fitted with the "Best on the Market", brand new nylon guides that far exceeds the durability and longevity of the OEM injection molded parts that GM made, "back in the day". Each assembly is load tested 5 cycles for operational and structural integrity. The units are packed with new high quality NLGI 2, full synthetic, lithium grease that matches OEM appearance and standards while improving performance, longevity and durability using modern day technology (equivalent to GM 9985254). General purpose white lithium grease is not recommended if you are looking to match the maintenance free OEM standards required in the original GM grease. While it provides a suitable alternative the grease has a much lower drop point temperature, and designed for applications where more routine maintenance is performed. Evaporation occurs in a smaller time frame requiring the unit to be cleaned and lubed at shorter intervals. Degradation resistance to extreme climate conditions will also be decreased, especially in higher humidity and temperature ranges. Some of the more aggressive industrial grades of grease can act as a corrosive agent toward plastic parts so always be careful when choosing a grease. Red wheel bearing grease is designed to be effective at high temperature, pressure and RPM ranges. The additives used in this type of grease causes stiffening, especially during extreme cold temperatures.
Your unit will be assembled with a brand new set of custom fitted nylon guides, our popular ATM rebuilt motor and electronics package and a 1 year service warranty!
The standard photo is used as all the units are consistent in appearance with a refinished latch, restomod harness and a used reinforced housing shown in picture 3.
Before you decide to purchase a used pull down please take the time to read some helpful information: The units pulled from these cars are over 20 years old and the motor and electronics package needs to be overhauled if you want to enjoy factory new reliability again. After 15 years of extreme climate conditions the original GM grease turns into a friction inducing sticky paste causing the unit to structurally destroy itself with each cycle. When these units are pulled from junk cars the diode module, wiring harness and electronic positioning switches are often subjected to filthy conditions and raw weather between the original car and the seller and almost always contain hidden internal issues. The internal parts on the motor and electronic components usually have very high milege and they need to be deconstructed, meter tested and carefully inspected for wear, internal shorts, bad diodes, corrosion issues, burning, cracks and the list goes on and on....
If the electronics package and motor in these units are not rebuilt at this point in it's life cycle continued neglect has proven to be ongoing. The unit will run slower and slower experiencing intermittent issues during cycles and either shut down, or the motor will not shut off at the end of a cycle stripping the gear nut and leaving you with the high cost of replacing expensive discontinued hard parts. There are long term advantages that come with rebuilding the original GM motor and electrical parts as manufacturing companies often design and market cheaper replacements specifically engineered for volume sales. If you are looking for a pull down that will last for a long time please be very careful when purchasing a used unit. While not all salvage companies are deceptive and crooked the purchase will cary some risk and require sorting through listings that may offer customers low prices combined with very little information about the part, or what type of refurb work has been done to the unit. Embellished operational integrity is a common selling pitch used in the salvage industry. There are good benefits that come from making articulate decisions when purchasing an advertised rebuilt pull down as the workmanship is not always complete. Examine the pictures and read the words carefully to see how much has been actually invested into the rebuild. Is there visual evidence of electrical work applied to the unit? If the guides are used are there cracks or pieces missing from the ends of the guides? Does the seller guarantee that the used guides have a good snug fit in the description, or does the latch have latitudinal play? Are any electrical parts cleaned and meter tested? Is the wiring harness, relay, motor and reverse switch professionally overhauled and rigged? Take the time to check with the seller as the pictures are sometimes generic with recycled descriptions and tricky wording that will lead you to believe that new or rebuilt parts are installed and may not be the actual quality of rebuilding that you perceive the unit to be. It's important to be aware of the level of rebuild with your purchase for proper appraisal. In some cases new grease of any type is spread over top of the filthy, original petrified grease leaving a tacky mess that moves to exasperate the problem. Mixing grease from different manufacturers is not recommended. In other cases the actual motors are not rebuilt at all. Check if the core electronic parts are specifically stated as rebuilt in the listing as often these parts have not been deconstructed and refurbished in the rebuild process. Sometimes sellers do not perform electrical rebuilding on their units and may have chosen not to invest the time required for getting a longer term life span into the product. Possibly for a lower grade pricing option or quicker turn times. The presence of the original dull, bronze colored, machine fasteners on the reverse switch will disclose that the part was not rebuilt and rigged. This part also has a solid state diode on the bottom that needs to be checked for leakage. This is one of many examples that critical electrical parts only tested as an assembly to be "working" or "not working" will carry the same risk of premature failure and intermittent problems as any salvage unit would. Before you spend top dollar on a listed rebuilt pull down it would be sage advice to take a close look at the pictures or use a little discernment. In my experience faulty electronics has been a big culprit resulting in a no response fault, stripped gear nut, burned out diodes and other broken internal motor parts. A professional rebuild is important with the level of electronic complexity in the design so taking the time to review the rebuild practices will definitely reap a longer term reward. Pull downs are not cost effective if you keep replacing the units with salvaged or incomplete rebuilds in a continual pattern. Without solid verification as to what parts were actually rebuilt it's very easy to find yourself spending extra money on a rebuilt pull down that is nothing more than a cleaned and greased motor housing with serviceable guides and polished exterior metal. A good quality rebuild is detailed right down to the core electrical elements that will return the pull down to the new operational condition the unit had when the vehicle left the factory and will provide you with a "One Stop Solution" for your powered hatch. Autotrunkmotor is focused on high quality standards while delivering customers over the top installation and tech support that you can only get from an exclusive pull down repair outfit. In the world of overhaul, custom rebuilding your original equipment always delivers much better warranties and there are no high core costs to contend with in pricing.
Last but not least the plastic guides in over 85% of the used units that I have deconstructed contained hidden issues. They will appear intact when tested as an assembly but, are often full of structurally threatening splits and cracks that will leave you with a handful of disintegrated plastic pieces when combined with repeated cycles through the petrified grease and extreme climate conditions. This in turn, will cause excessive slop in the fit. Each time the unit is activated the latch will start binding inside the bracket causing aggressive loads during operation. Structural damage to the gearnut and housing becomes imminent. Intermittent operation and reverse switch failures occur and that list goes on and on...
We have found rebuilding the original style round motors and silver Delphi interior motors that GM used in the factory to be the best long term choice as the aftermarket "rectangular shaped motor and housing replacement design" incorporates a very poor grease seal and the motors are getting fouled out with grease blow-by over time. The engineering appears to be bias and more motivated by companies driven to sell replacement motors every so many years. It is highly recommended to refrain from jumping wires to get these units to respond as there are three fragile diodes in the circuit that will be destroyed if it receives the wrong input. Customer testimonies have proven that installing salvage yard parts, and whole units has ended in failures multiple times. Each unit comes with a 1 year no hassle service warranty. All core return customers will receive 1 year of extended service coverage. Service warranties are good for USA coast to coast sales only and buyer is responsible for return shipping. All parts except the guides are listed as serviceable used. Warranties do not cover broken parts from improper installation, auto collisions or structural anomalies with the vehicle. If at any time after the warranty period you need any assistance with your pull down please contact Autotrunkmotor with the information on your invoice slip as customer support is ongoing and we will assist our loyal customers for the life of ownership.
In most cases, the silver pistol shaped latch releasing cable/solenoid that is mounted on the back of your pull down will not have an issue but, I do have them available by request (See Pictures 5 and 6). If this power hatch, release solenoid has no response make sure there is a bonding strap (Grounding Wire) under the solenoid mounting bolt and the other looped end is connected to a good solid ground (usually in the same place as the pull down grounding bolt). These solenoids rarely go bad and will not work without the bonding strap connected to a good solid ground. Also make sure the electrical plug on the end of the solenoid is getting power from the relay. Pull downs are interchangable with either power or manual hatch release cables so if you need the manual type just let us know.
Taking these simple steps this can save you from wasting money on a power hatch solenoid that you don't need
IMPORTANT! Lock cables are sent by request. The harness configuration and connector type varies based on vehicle information year/make/model/ coupe/convertible/power hatch/manual hatch. Purchases with no vehicle information will cause a shipping delay and/or the unit may be shipped in a default configuration with a butt connector and no lock cable.
Enjoy the benefits of our core return program plus save $60.00 on your purchase!
Missing parts, heavy impact, or cutting damage to the parts other than the clear plastic motor housing and/or guides does not qualify for a full core return. The return for unqualified cores will be a fair market, prorated amount above your shipping cost.
All core return customers will receive an additional 1 year no hassle extended service warranty!
Warranties do not cover damaged housings and broken parts from improper installation or structural anomalies with the vehicle. (See installation warning below!)
Attention International Customers: Ebay/PayPal charges 15% of the extra shipping cost so a handling fee is added to cover that cost.
Attention Convertible Owners: later year convertibles have a black "L" shapped bracket and white pin switch that will have to be swapped from your original unit on install as our units do not ship convertible ready if that added electrical option is on your convertible's harness.
Important: There was an engineering change in the 90's to a tan colored, plastic frame version. Be sure your original has a metal frame and matches up to the picture in this auction if your Firebird, Trans Am or Camaro is a 90-91.
This is a great opportunity to purchase a completely rebuilt pull down unit without the $250-$450 Price Tag and ongoing customer support for the life of vehicle ownership!
Installation Warning! Please be sure you mount these units in the car with the same adjustment the factory has. Overtightening can cause structural failure and may void the warranty. If you don't have an original to go by, start by mounting it (centered to the striker) high and loose and go down from there in small increments until the hatch meets the weather seal evenly when the unit stops. You will hear a click and the motor should shut off right after the hatch lid puts a light squeeze on the rubber weather seal. This will also insure a much longer life of the pull down unit. Warranties do not cover damaged housings from improper installation or structural anomalies with the vehicle.
Thank you for taking the time to read my auction! Your patience will help you enjoy the benefits of making long term decisions with your pull down.
The design is intended to offer my skills to provide a helpful and informative resource for making a pull down investment that will last for the life of vehicle ownership.

VW Sharan (2010/2011) teased
Tue, 23 Feb 2010Volkswagen is teasing the 2010 Sharan ahead of a Geneva reveal Update 2/3/2010: VW has now revealed the 2010 Sharan at the Geneva Motor Show. Well, we say teased, but it’s an odd sort of tease. Rather like the even more low-key tease Porsche has done for the new 2010 Porsche Cayenne.
Nissan to offer zero-emissions e-NV200 commercial van in 2014
Mon, 09 Sep 2013We all know that if there's one thing that delivery trucks like to do (UPS trucks excepted), it's to idle loudly in front of your home or office while filling the air with exhaust fumes as their drivers fill out paperwork on one of those metal pads. Scientific opinion around the world is split as to why delivery truck drivers do this, but one generally accepted explanation put forth by a group of Swiss scientists is that delivery truck drivers don't pay for their own fuel, and need to keep the radio on to listen to sports while filling out invoices. Well, Nissan is about to change all that, at least when it comes to eliminating the exhaust fumes generated by light commercial vehicles, with the introduction of the Nissan e-NV200 Zero Emission Van in the near future.
