GM Transfer Case Pump Rub Eliminator Plate
The Adapt-A-Case BRNY is the original, economical, practical fix for the transfer case oil pump rubbing through the transfer case housing. Use as a preventative measure before wearing a hole in your case or after transfer case repair. After repairing any holes, the plate sits between pump and case housing. This simple and elegant solution is key to avoiding a repeat of this problem.
What is "PUMP RUB" ??
The GM transfer cases use a gear pump inside the case that is driven off the mainshaft. The pump forces oil to the planetary as well as the drive sprocket sleeve. Because the pump is driven by the shaft, the housing of the pump must 'float' in the rear housing. There are 5 tabs around the housing that fit into spots in the rear housing to position the pump. Over time, the pump can start to wear on the rear housing. GM installed a spring steel clip in the housing intended to prevent wear, but the clip can break and render it useless. GM has even updated this clips design in recent years, it is better, but still fails as the design is flawed not just the clip.
Being that the pump housing is aluminum and is a harder material then the magnesium rear housing, it can wear a hole in the rear housing and cause a very small leak. This leak is high enough in the case that it typically will not leak when vehicle is not moving and therefor not leaving any drops on the ground. Typically the condition is not found until there is transfer case damage from running the case out of fluid.
Avoid costly repairs to your transfer case by preventing this condition. Preventing this problem or fixing an existing one is as easy as one, two, three....
1 - Clean case and repair damage with two part epoxy or have it welded
2 - Place BRNY protector plate in the pump pocket
3 - Continue the rebuild knowing it’s fixed

NOTES****
- Due to the laser-cut accuracy in the manufacturing of the BRNY and the OEM pocket design, end play is normally unchanged.
- In some aftermarket replacement case-halves a small amount of case material must be removed along pocket’s inner corner where castings can vary slightly!
- If you have a large hole in your case and and the pump has done extensive damage. A new replacement case half may be necessary. It is impossible to tell the extent of the damage until the unit is disassembled and inspected. If in doubt, have it looked at by a professional.
