Euro NCAP latest
Wed, 28 Feb 2007By Jack Carfrae Motor Industry 28 February 2007 10:12 Euro NCAP releases results on five new models Should Euro NCAP recalibrate its results? We suspect it should, as virtually every new car launched these days scores a high four- or five-star overall rating for occupant protection. The new results announced today are no different: Small family carsFiat Bravo: 5 stars (occupant safety), 3 stars (child safety), 2 stars (pedestrian safety) Toyota Corolla saloon: 5 stars (occupant), 4 stars (children), 3 stars (pedestrian) Small off-roaders Honda CR-V: 4 stars (occupant), 4 stars (children), 2 stars (pedestrian) Mitsubishi Outlander: 4 stars (occupant), 3 stars (children), 2 stars (pedestrian) Executive Honda Legend: 5 stars (occupant), 4 stars (children), 3 stars (pedestrian) Dig below the surface, though, and several disappointments emerge.
Apple and Ferrari—What could be better?
Thu, 08 Nov 2012Recently a press release popped into my email (remember when we used to say “came across my desk”?) that said Eddy Cue, Apple's head of Internet software and services, has joined Ferrari's board of directors. The statement said while on the board Cue, a Ferrari owner, will “aid with his experience in Internet-based commerce.” My two cents: It's a brilliant move for both parties, and the ramifications could be huge. Think about it: Does this mean Apple wants to make stuff for cars?
Urbee 3D-printed car: the greenest car in the world?
Tue, 03 Dec 2013Not to be confused with a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle with a similar sounding name, Urbee stands for URBan Electric vehicle with Ethanol as back-up. You can see why they settled on Urbee now, can't you? The Urbee is also the world’s first 3D-printed car, and the plan is to drive it from San Francisco to New York - a distance of 2,905 miles - in less than 44 hours.
