What a cool and rare piece of nautical and boating history!  This 1934 Minn-Kota Troller 6-12 volt Boat Motor was the first Gear Driven Electric Trolling Motor.  Though electric boat motors predate gas-powered motors, it wasn't until 1934 that O.G. Schmidt of Fargo, N.D., combined a starter motor from a Ford Model A, a flexible shaft and a propeller to fashion an electric motor that clamped to a boat's transom or gunnel. Other fishermen convinced Schmidt that he was on to something, and he formed a company to manufacture the motors. Because his plant was so close to the Minnesota state line, Schmidt decided to call the company Minn Kota.  The last picture is from the Minn Kota website and verifies the age of the motor.

We found that there is one of these in the possession of the Minnesota Historical Society.  They are not selling the piece itself but they sell pictures of it for between $15 and $30!  Here's a chance to own the real deal.

This motor has not been tested and would likely need rewiring for it to work.  Because of its size and weight (36"x24", 20 lbs), we are listing this as a local pickup only, but if you send us a message with your zip code, we will tailor a shipping quote for you.

Please ask questions and review the photographs and condition description prior to making a purchase decision.

Under unusually blue skies and warm temperatures, the sunscreened faithful ogled a varied and eclectic lineup, from Ferraris and Porsches to the Ford tractor owned by Carroll Shelby's doctor. Beat that, Pebble.

Mopar salutes Don Garlits and muscle-car past as it eyes global future

Tue, 31 Jan 2012

Mopar made its name in performance and parts, but Chrysler's aftermarket division is staking its future on practicality. The brand celebrated its 75th anniversary on Tuesday at the Mopar engineering lab in Center Line, Mich., just north of Detroit. While it rolled out four custom cars with various stages of show-and-go upgrades and drag-racing legend Don Garlits, Mopar officials were decidedly forward-looking.
