this has some wear: overall dustiness with scratching and nicking to the floor deck pieces -- some soiling and likely fading from time to the old upholstery: no rips and still fairly supple -- moderate rust patching with some loss of original paint on the frame -- folding mechanism moves ok and latches securely in place.
Placement on Vehicle:Left Country/Region of Manufacture:United States

vintage left Rear Seat that I believe is from the 1955 or 1956 Ford Fairlane Country Sedan Station Wagon -- Red with White -- diamond pattern to the red part of the upholstery -- this seat folds away to form the back floor to the station wagon when desired: a 'hideaway' seat -- this would have had another narrower seat beside it to the right -- the cushions measure about 16 and 18 by 32 in. - flattened this measures about 32 by 34 in. --
--
last three pictures are from a set of photos from a restored 1956 Fairlane wagon sold at auction last year--

-- wood frame shown in the pictures is not included --

Ford once planned to race fiberglass-bodied Mustang touring cars

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

Tucked away on page nine of the May 9, 1964 issue of Competition Press and Autoweek is an intriguing little story: “FIA Rejects Ford Bid for Homolgation [sic].” At the time, the Mustang had just made its world debut, but Ford was already scheming to fold the car into its “Total Performance” campaign. The automaker apparently proposed to do so with a fleet of crazy fiberglass-bodied touring cars. According to Competition Press, Ford tried to get the new Mustang classified as a touring car for international racing.
