This is Audi’s idea of a TT in the GT3 RS or Superleggera mould: the TT Ultra Quattro concept. Thanks to a ruthless diet and an uprated 2.0-litre TFSI turbo petrol engine, the all-wheel drive TT Ultra will launch to 62mph in 4.2sec, (1.3sec faster than a regular Audi TTS) and hit 173mph flat out. The Hennessey Venom GT (pictured) hist 270.49mph on a NASA runway Top speed records for production cars is starting to seem pretty irrelevant as there’s almost nowhere an owner can ever hope to hit those record speeds. And the performance of cars like the new McLaren P1 – where  performance and handling are much more the focus than outright top speed – has added the the irrelevance. But that doesn’t stop some car makers aiming for the bragging rights of the world’s fastest production car, and John Hennessey and his Hennessey Venom GT are back with another claim on the title.

It took more than a year for Christian von Koenigsegg and his intrepid team to complete the first car, but it was worth the wait. Probably the supercar star of the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, the One:1 gets 1360 HP and weighs just 1360KG – the the world’s first 1:1 power to curb weight ratio supercar – and has 2G cornering ability and 610kg of downforce at 160mph thanks to active aerodynamics.
