Car buying, minus the dealership
Fri, 18 Jan 2013“Test drives delivered” is the motto of Tred, a Seattle-based startup that's taking the car dealership out of the car-buying process -- at least from the shopper's perspective. Wired.com reported Thursday that by accessing Tred via the Web or an iPad app, shoppers will be able to select the cars they want to test-drive and have them delivered to the location of their choice. Each car is then delivered by a Tred staffer rather than a dealership salesperson.
New Range Rover Sport crosses ‘Empty Quarter’ Desert in record time
Tue, 05 Nov 2013The new Range Rover Sport crosses the ‘Empty Quarter’ Desert in record time We all know that almost every Range Rover Sport sold will never do anything more rugged than crossing a boot sale car park. To demonstrate that combination of off-road prowess and speed they recently put the new Range Rover Sport up Pikes Peak in a record time (for an SUV) to demonstrate it could do rough stuff at speed, and now they’ve been out playing in the deserts of Saudi Arabia to ram the point home.
Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell (2010): the electric SLS
Mon, 05 Jul 2010Following the unveiling of Tesla's updated Roadster 2.5, Mercedes is showing off its iteration of an all-electric sports car: the SLS AMG E-Cell. While the regular SLS pumps out 563bhp and 479lb ft from its 6.2-litre V8, the SLS E-Cell has four synchronous electric motors, powering all four wheels for a combined output of 392kW (equivalent to 526bhp) and a mammoth 649lb ft of torque. Crucially, all of that power is accessible from zero revs, allowing the E-Cell to sprint to 62mph in four seconds dead.
