Well, as everyone who has ever bought old car parts based on someone else's description has found out, you can really suffer from a lack of clear communication.  In this case, I thought I was buying a used original GM power convertible top frame for a 1967 Pontiac Firebird which would fit my 1967 Camaro.  Instead, the Pontiac to which the description related was actually the full size Catalina, Bonneville, etc.

So, now I have a nice original GM power top frame, including a header bow, which I cannot use because I do not own a land yacht.  It was an expensive piece, and includes the latches, brackets, and cylinders.  Right now it is about as welcome in my shop as a boat anchor, hence the nautical comparison to vessels of inordinate size.  I did notice one of the power top hydraulic cylinders has a bent piston so I wouldn't count on using either one, but the frame does look straight.  In any case, I have no definitive knowledge of whether this is for a 67 Catalina or Bonneville, or whether it will fit other cars or vintages.  I have been told it will fit 67-70 Pontiac, Catalina and Bonneville, and some others, but I am not familiar with these parts, so do your homework.  If you are an Indian Chief, and feeling charitable, a quick note to me confirming its applications would be appreciated by myself and your fellow car nuts.

I am offering this piece with free shipping and a fixed price to cover what I spent.  I feel that if someone is willing to help me unwind my mistake, they should be rewarded by not having to deal with competing bids.  Since there will be some effort to disassemble the bows, box this item, and prepare to ship, all sales are final (no refunds and no returns, in as-is condition).  With this in mind you can ask any questions you want to before you purchase..... but not after.

As usual, sorry no sales outside the continental US.

Just remember, when it comes to buying  reproduction parts instead of original GM, almost perfect.... isn't.

Simeone museum lays out history of competition sports cars

Mon, 28 Sep 2009

Unlike Europe, with its multimillion-dollar manufacturer-sponsored auto museums, the United States has built its auto museums almost entirely with private money. Traveling around the country, you can find spectacular collections such as the Nethercutt in Sylmar, Calif., small enthusiast-run museums such as the Pierce-Arrow museum in Buffalo and everything in between. There are museums for hearses, microcars, tractors and every conceivable form of transport--including a museum in Ferndale, Calif., for human-powered vehicles.

Mitsubishi revamps U.S. strategy

Mitsubishi plans a different U.S. model lineup and a new production strategy for its assembly plant in Normal, Ill., as it shifts emphasis away from regionally focused vehicles to global small cars, hybrids and electrics. Shinichi Kurihara, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, says the company will launch four new models in the United States within three years, as four slow-selling U.S.-built vehicles are phased out of production by 2014.
