1968, 1969 & 1970 Corvette Alarm Switch; RPO UA6; NOS; N.O.S. New Old Stock

1968, 1969 and 1970 Corvettes (thru late 1970, approximate VIN 11750, or a build date of around June 11, 1970) could be ordered with an optional alarm system (RPO code UA6). The keyed alarm switch was located on the rear panel, above the Corvette emblem. The alarm switch was made by Briggs & Stratton (B&S) and the switch used B&S keys, not GM keys. A pair of matched keys came with the car and therefore for NCRS judging you need to present the judges with a pair of matched keys.

The keys have the words “Briggs & Stratton” on one side and “Briggs & Stratton Corporation” along with their “Milwaukee, WIS. U.S.A.” address on the other side. The keys also had a key code stamped into the bow of the key, just below the B&S address. The key codes typically were of the form Cxxx or Hxxx, where xxx are numerals 1 through 9.  For example, the keys in the photo below have the code C459.

If you’re looking for a correct alarm switch, please be aware that there are a number of ways that you can wind up with a switch that is not correct, and that will not pass muster with the judges.  First of all, most of the catalog company sell a reproduction switch, and you can also find repros on e-bay. As with other reproduction parts, even if they are not incorrect cosmetically, they are often cheap and made offshore. Another problem is that some repros only come with a single key. Not having a second key will garner you a deduct. You can also buy a similar looking switch from Strattec, the company that bought the B&S automotive lock division in 1995. The problem with the Strattec switch is that while it comes with two keys, the keys don’t have the correct Briggs & Stratton branding, so that will garner a deduct.

Lastly, some B&S switches sold on e-bay that might look correct may not function properly. That's because two styles of these switches were made. One works as a so-called momentary switch were the key is inserted, turned clockwise to activate the circuit, and then turned back counterclockwise in order to remove the key. With those switches the key cannot be removed in the fully rotated, clockwise position.  Whereas the proper switch allows for the key to be removed in the fully rotated  counterclockwise (OFF) position and in the fully rotated clockwise (ON) position. The problem is many sellers don't know there are two kinds of switches and then the buyer winds up on the short end of the stick. I've made all of these mistakes myself when buying these switches, and now you can benefit from my education.

The switches I have are authentic NOS switches made by the Briggs & Stratton automotive division, before they were sold off to Strattec. These NOS switches are guaranteed to function correctly (the key can be removed at both OFF and ON positions), they will pass judging with no deducts, and they are high quality items made in the USA, not made in China or Mexico, like is so often the case with repro parts these days.

I only have two of these switches, so get one while they last.

I try to describe everything I sell as accurately as possible. Ask any questions before you bid. Please take a look at my feedback rating. In 15 years of selling on e-bay I have never had negative feedback from a buyer.

Is this a tease for the Pagani Huayra Roadster? (video)

Sun, 03 Feb 2013

Pagani has released a tease for what we assume is a reveal at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Could this be the convertible Huayra – the Pagani Huayra Roadster? Unbelievably, it’s now two years since Cars UK exclusively revealed the first ever photo of the Pagani Huayra, Pagani’s replacement for the car that turned Pagani from a wannabe garden shed car cobbler together to a credible maker of ultimate supercars – the Pagani Zonda.

The SEAT Altea EV & plug-in SEAT Leon hybrid - testing for the next 4 years Seat may have revealed a pair of cars with ‘eco’ powerplants -  the Leon TwinDrive Ecomotive and the Altea XL Electric Ecomotive – but they’re not coming to a showroom near you. Well, not before 2015, anyway. The plan is to build a small prototype fleet of the Leon Hybrid and Altea EV and make them available to local government in Catalonia and Madrid, to get evaluation and real-world feedback before the cars go in to production, which won’t be for at least four years.

BMW reveals long waiting list for new i3 electric car - just for a test drive

Wed, 04 Dec 2013

BMW BMW's new i3 electric car is proving so popular, punters are having to wait several months just for a test drive. This extraordinary detail was revealed last night by Ian Robertson, the company's global marketing chief (pictured above left, alongside the BMW i3 in London). Normally, test drive requests for a conventional petrol or diesel car are fulfilled on the same day when you visit a new-car showroom.
