You are bidding on an original 1968 SS396 Chevelle 4 speed Muncie Shifter for a bench seat Muncie 4 speed transmission application.
This shifter is in very good condition and has low miles of use.
The shifter fits the Muncie M20 M21 M22 transmission and the chrome stick has the Muncie letters stamped in it. It is not a reproduction shifter.
The ball threads are good. The ball has some marks from use but is good.
The stick chrome is in very good condition. It has some small scratches from use but overall very good condition.
The mount plate and stabilizer bar have some old black paint on them. I left them as is and did not try to restore them. There are some small rust spots on the mount plate.
This shifter is complete with a working reverse plunger detent and original orange plastic grease cup, the gate spring and hat shaped retainer, and the main shaft rubber donut that goes between the shifter and mount plate.
Those are all hard to find small parts that are missing on most used shifters. These parts all look good and original with only slight wear on them.
The Trans levers are the small slot Muncie levers that are correct for a 1968 Muncie Trans.
A good OEM original Muncie shifter is hard to find. This is in complete unrestored working condition. You can go crazy looking for some of the small parts if you buy an incomplete one and most of the ones I have seen are missing the gate spring and hat shaped retainer and a working reverse detent assembly.
The reverse detent assembly alone has 10 parts to it.
I tested the reverse detent and it works correctly and has the original orange grease cup.
I disassembled this shifter and cleaned it and put new grease. The grease was white grease and was dry and hard. I put it together with new white grease.
