For your Big Block Buick project!  1976 Buick 455.  I am a lifelong Buick hobbyist &
40 year member of the Buick Club of America.  Now that I am retired,
I like to build Buick (and Cadillac) big blocks
from this era and usually have one or two in progress at any given time.

I prefer to build these Buick beauties to stock specifications and let the buyer
decide to use it as is; or modify it for their application.  I do this so that the restorers are
not left out!  Many times these engines appear for sale, but are built for high performance.
In actuality, these engines in stock form perform beautifully, will still "burn rubber", but
run great on today's pump gas.

This engine is pictured in it's pure "high-nickel" content bare casting state.  Note the silvery luster
to the casting.  Buicks and Cadillacs of the day had very high nickel content.  I think they
are great looking in bare form, so I don't paint them before I sell them.
The only painted items you see are the exhaust manifolds, valve covers, timing cover.
Since it is a 1976 motor
a restorer may wish to paint it "GM Corp. Blue", which was correct from 1975.  If your intent is to put into
a Buick from 1967-1974 then "Buick Red" will be your choice.

I have used ALL quality, name brand USA engine parts (Mahle, Sealed Power, Hastings, Melling, Cloyes, Clevite, etc)

This motor was carefully disassembled, inspected and then sent off to the machine shop to have
the crank ground .010 & align bored accordingly; a complete valve job with new guides, seals, etc.  Only one exhaust valve was
suspect...so, it was replaced.  Once it had been hot tanked and magna fluxed my machine shop owner
then carefully miked the bores and confirmed that this motor need not be bored!  It was treated to
a methodical honing as can be seen in the pre-assembly photos.  They installed all new cam bearings, new oil galley plugs, freeze plugs, etc.  NO skimping on machine shop operations, but keeping it a stock build up keeps the costs down
for the new owner!

I installed a new (stock 1976 spec) cam, lifters, bearings, rings, and used a Fel-Pro gasket set.
As far as upgrades ......
I always use T/A performance timing cover and rear main seals upgrades as opposed to the
rope seals used in the 60s and 70s.  This is a must due to the unreliability of the newer
"asbestos free" rope seals.  These upgrades are a must for a nice dry engine!

Also, I always install all new oil pump components & add the machined thrust plate (see pics)
for the new oil pump gears to ride on.  This eliminates any concern about the wear on
the timing cover surface.  You'll note that the oil pump has been
pre-packed with petroleum jelly (as spec.d by the service manual) to ensure
instant oil priming on initial start-up.
The motor also has been treated to a new water pump.

I am selling this engine as shown, but if your requirements do not include the stock intake, carb, or
HEI distributor, or exhaust manifolds then we can adjust accordingly.  If you prefer a different
spec cam or valve train ... let me know before end of auction.

I also have pulleys, starters, alternators, brackets, etc. for these 455's if you wish to add them to
your purchase.  Contact me prior to auction end to work out YOUR needed configuration or any other questions you
may have.  Bid with confidence! I am a hobbyist not a dealer and have a flawless feedback score!

No shipping, pick up only ...HOWEVER, I will work with you to get it palletized and
be available for your chosen shipper to pick it up.  I charge $75 for palletizing.

PAYPAL ONLY, Please!

I'll deliver within 200 miles for gas money.

Ferrari F1 drops ‘Marlboro’ graphics for Barcelona

Sun, 09 May 2010

Ferrari have dropped the ‘Pack of Marlboros’ graphic for the Barcelona GP A couple of weeks ago we reported that Ferrari have been accused of running subliminal tobacco advertising on their F1 cars, an allegation Ferrari strenuously denied. To be honest we can’t know for sure whether there was an intent to subliminally suggest a pack of Marlboros with the barcode graphics on the current Ferrari F1 livery or not. What we can be sure of is that now a jobsworth has made the allegation we all think of a pack of Marlboros every time we see the Ferrari livery.

Porsche Battery – a mere £1200

Thu, 10 Dec 2009

The rather expensive Porsche Lithium Ion Battery Car batteries have been roughly the same shape and size – and utilised basically the same lead-acid technology – for years. They’ve got better, as you no longer need to top them up with distilled water at regular intervals (I’m showing my age now), and they are less prone to going flat. But that probably has more to do with alternators replacing dynamos than the batteries themselves.

McLaren SLR Stirling Moss – the Video

Sat, 08 Aug 2009

Mercedes McLaren SLR Stirling Moss Featuring the same underpinnings as the McLaren SLR 722, it develops 650bhp and manages 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph. Which should be enough to dislodge the toupee of those who can afford to buy it. McLaren are only producing 75 SLR Stirling Moss, so perhaps it’s no real surprise that we’ve seen so little about the SLR since it launched.
