Porsche to add 1,000 employees
Mon, 14 Feb 2011To keep pace with its planned model expansion and sales targets, Porsche AG will add more than 1,000 employees by 2015, Automotive News Europe has learned from Volkswagen Group sources. About 500 jobs will be added for production of Porsche's new compact SUV, codenamed the Cajun, which will go on sale in 2013 in Europe and in North America about six months later. Porsche's supervisory board will make a decision on the production location of the Cajun in mid-March.
Mercedes-Benz axes Maybach
Fri, 25 Nov 2011High ranking Mercedes-Benz sources have confirmed to Autoweek that the underperforming Maybach brand will be officially killed off in 2013. The decision to disband Mercedes-Benz’s upper luxury marque comes after a decade of disappointing sales for the Maybach 57 and 62 and a recent decision from the German car maker’s chairman Dieter Zetsche not to push ahead with the development replacement models – the likes of which were tentatively due out in 2014 – owing to what one insider describes as a “positive move to focus greater attention on the Mercedes-Benz brand” . “We’ve come to the conclusion that it is better to cut our losses with Maybach than to continue into an uncertain future with a brand that has failed to live up to original sales expectations," the insider said.
On the 'road' carpet at the Cars 2 premiere
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Larry the Cable Guy was there! In place of the usual red carpet, stars of the movie Cars 2 walked down a "road" carpet--a two-lane black carpet complete with white-striped center line--at the movie's premiere on Saturday night in Hollywood, Calif. The usually traffic-clogged Hollywood Boulevard was closed for two blocks as limos dropped off the famous, the somewhat less famous and a bunch of people who were largely ignored by everybody.
