Off the line: Fun cars and social responsibility Autoweek op-ed stands the test of time

It's been almost 21 years to the day that Autoweek printed Matt DeLorenzo's column “Off the Line: There's room for fast, fun cars in diet of social responsibility.” And in those two decades plus, not much has changed except the vehicles themselves. For example, sports cars like the Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Huayra have astronomically high performance and safety levels; similarly, sport-utility vehicles that haul entire families (and most of their earthly possessions) achieve fuel economy similar to that of 1970s midsize sedans. “Mad Max: Fury Road” comes out in 2015 with Tom Hardy (Bane, "The Dark Knight Rises") playing Max Rockatansky in the wasteland that used to be the Australian outback. Lucky for us, that means a demolition-soaked, open-world, off-road-style car game is on the way, too. We checked out the trailer on Friday for the "Mad Max" video game, which has been delayed until 2015, and found that it hits all the right buttons.

Hyundai ix25 Concept: Beijing Motor Show

The Hyundai ix25 (pictured) debuts in Beijing There’s been talk of a Hyundai ix25 for a couple of years now as the compact SUV market continues to grow and Hyundai’s smallest SUV offering remains the ix35. Now, Hyundai are getting set to remedy that gap in their range with the arrival of the Hyundai ix25 – as a concept – at the Beijing Motor Show, and looking much as you would expect – an ix35 with a few tweaks after a boil wash. At 4270mm long, the ix25 is about the same length as the new Mercedes A Class, but narrower and taller, and comes fitted with a 2.0 litre ‘Nu’ engine.
