Tokyo motor shows: past, present and future

By Tim Pollard Motor Shows 20 August 2009 09:30 As bets in this topsy-turvy, unpredictable industry go, it’s a banker: of all the motor shows on the global calendar, the Tokyo exhibit is always the barmiest. Although the Chinese shows are rising in importance – and amusement value –  there’s something peculiarly bonkers about the biannual Japanese bash held in downtown Tokyo. So strange is the exhibition at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City to westerners, that you don’t bat an eyelid at talking cars, vehicles with feelings, or cars designed for dogs.

Charles Morgan to build rival cars

Sacked Morgan boss Charles Morgan is to set up new sports car company that he says will rival the 104-year-old British car manufacturer that bears his family name and recently dismissed him. In a report in the Telegraph, Charles is quoted as saying his new company will “build on the innovation and heritage of my grandfather”. Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grand Tour

2013 is the 50th anniversary of the creation of Lamborghini by Ferruccio Lamborghini and is being celebrated by the Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grand Tour. Ferruccio Lamborghini may just have been a tractor builder in the eyes of Enzo Ferrari, but 50 years on from the point where Ferruccio Lamborghini started to make the cars he wanted to drive – because Ferrari didn’t – Lamborghini can be thought of as Ferrari’s equal – if historically a slightly more barking one. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini’s first car, Lamborghini are organising events around the world in 2013 to celebrate all things Sant’Agata, culminating in the Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grand Tour on 7th – 11th May 2013.
