Budget 2011: Fuel duty CUT & tuppence for potholes

Motorists Budget 2011 No once expected huge give-aways in George Osborne’s second budget – especially as we now have cruise missiles to pay for in Libya – but the hope was that the Chancellor would at least address the inexcorable rise in the cost of fuel. Which he has – sort of. Fuel was due to increase by around 5p a litre next week if he’d left Labour’s fuel duty escalator in place.

VW Taigun: It’s an Up! SUV

Volkswagen has revealed the VW Taigun at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil, a very compact SUV based on the VW Up! The Taigun is 3859mm long and 1728mm wide, making it a chunk smaller than the next VW SUV up (the Tiguan) and smaller even than Nissan’s Juke, but it gets an extra 50mm in the wheelbase compared to the Up so interior room looks decent. Vw say the Taigun is purposely designed to look just like a mini-me Tiguan or Touareg (and sound like one too) with its very similar styling, high ride height, skid plates and roof rails with an interior that offers room for four and enough spce for 280 litre of stuff in the boot (a plentiful 987 litres with the back seats folded).

Citroen will show a 'concept' version of the DS3 Cabrio Racing at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed – though it looks all but production ready to us. The DS3R Cabrio uses the same 202bhp 1.6-litre engine as the DS3R hot hatch, but weighs an extra 25kg thanks to the folding rood conversion.
