Scuola Politecnica di Design announces Chris Bangle workshop
Mon, 13 Jul 2009Italy’s Scuola Politecnica di Design has announced a seven-day workshop with former BMW Group design boss Chris Bangle at its campus in Milan. Themed ‘Future Personal Emotional Mobility’ and scheduled to run from 18 to 24 September 2009, the workshop invites design degree graduates and experienced car designers to take part in a project to create a new breed of sustainable shared transportation for the year 2050. Based on the concept that the mass migration of people from the countryside to cities will in the future create even more social, economic and ecological differences between population zones, this event will see attendees work closely with Bangle towards designing systems that engage on an emotional as well as an economic level, satisfying the personal transportation needs – and desires – of a disparate global population while minimising impact on the environment.

Thu, 03 Feb 2011Saab 9-5 SportCombi spotted near Trollhattan From a flurry of activity when Spyker finally got hold of Saab from GM nearly a year ago, news from Trollhattan has not been exactly flowing out in an endless stream. And good news hasn’t really been the keynote for the first year of Spyker’s ownership of Sweden’s second favourite car maker. The new Saab 9-5 – although well received in terms of design and equipment – was a bit of a let-down in terms of dynamics and comfort.
Volvo V40 Cross Country arrives
Wed, 19 Sep 2012Volvo has revealed the 2013 V40 Cross Country, a new variant on the new V40, offering a more rugged option for the V40 range. We thought it was going to be the Volvo XC40 – denoting an SUV come crossover version of the new V40 – but Volvo has decided that their more rugged version of the V40 will take the Cross Country name - first used on the V70 in 1997 – and so we get the new Volvo V40 Cross Country. Following on from the new V40 R-Design, revealed last week, Volvo now offers a V40 they say is for ‘those who want a sense of adventure in their everyday life‘ – in other words, this is a slightly more rufty-tufty V40.
