Natural-gas-powered Honda Civic can stay in California carpool lane

Honda Civic GX drivers in California are smiling this week as they continue to have access to the high-occupancy-vehicle lane, even with just one person in the car. Even though one-occupant hybrid cars have lost access to the carpool lane, natural-gas-powered vehicles get to use it for another four years. Beginning on July 1, yellow-stickered partial hybrids were banned from HOV areas on the highways unless they carried the mandated number of people.

Smart has announced the For-US concept, which will debut at the 2012 NAIAS. The For-US is a two seat 'urban pick-up' that adopts a 'tongue-in-cheek' demeanor and is aimed at youth and the young-at-heart. The pint-sized pick-up is a zero-emission vehicle with a 55kW magneto-electric motor at its core.

Kia Sorento SUV is recalled for problem with airbag sensor

Kia is recalling 10,631 Sorento SUVs because of a problem with the airbag sensor. Sorento models made between June 15, 2006, and Nov. 27, 2007, might have a malfunctioning sensor for the front passenger seat, incorrectly classifying passengers in that seat as children and therefore deactivating their airbags.
