While we wait for Lexus finally to turn its long-awaited 200mph V10 LF-A supercar coupe into a production reality, Detroit showgoers had to make do with this roadster version. Still, the unveil of the ‘new’ sawn-off variant was one of the few Detroit surprises not known about beforehand, and offers an enticing glimpse of how the LF-A franchise could develop. Beyond the lack of a roof, the basic body shape is the same as the now-familiar LF-A coupe first unveiled at the 2005 Detroit show.

Sports car maker TVR announced today that its Blackpool factory will close, with the loss of 260 jobs. But the company vows that the brand will live on though, with production moving overseas. The workforce was told the news this morning (Wednesday 18).

These are the first pictures of the Audi R8 Spyder, after the images were leaked onto the internet ahead of the car’s debut at the Frankfurt motor show next week. Power is only expected to come from the 5.2-litre V10 engine, so the Spyder will send 518bhp and 390lb ft to all four wheels via either a six-speed manual or an automated-manual R-tronic gearbox. The R8 Spyder also has the same double-strake front intakes and rear vents as the V10, plus the chrome-surrounded central grille and twin oval exhausts.
