Tokyo motor shows: past, present and future

By Tim Pollard Motor Shows 20 August 2009 09:30 As bets in this topsy-turvy, unpredictable industry go, it’s a banker: of all the motor shows on the global calendar, the Tokyo exhibit is always the barmiest. Although the Chinese shows are rising in importance – and amusement value –  there’s something peculiarly bonkers about the biannual Japanese bash held in downtown Tokyo. So strange is the exhibition at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City to westerners, that you don’t bat an eyelid at talking cars, vehicles with feelings, or cars designed for dogs.

MG TF – finally built at Longbridge. Plus mystery MG

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 02 June 2008 12:18 After a series of twists, turns, delays and wildly ambitious claims more akin to a Miss Marple whodunnit, MG has finally built its first TFs at the Longbridge plant in the West Midlands. We've seen the first TF LE500 models at Longbridge and we hear they will be in dealers soon, priced at around £16,000.  What's changed since the last 2005 cars? These early pre-prototypes look virtually unchanged, but now come with a body-coloured hard-top, leather seats, air-con and improved interior plastics as standard.The cars pictured here have the new standard-fit glass rear screen, wind deflector, 16in alloys in shadow chrome or satin-black finish and the new piano black interior trim and revised dials.

Range Rover Sport TDV8 Ultimate – Bye-Bye 3.6 litres

The Range Rover Sport TDV8 Ultimate Update: Land Rover are on the ball despite it being a Bank Holiday weekend. They’ve been in touch to say there are no plans for a UK version of the RRS TDV8 Ultimate. So we know that Land Rover are going to plant a new 4.4 litre diesel in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport (and probably Jaguar in the new XJ TDV8 too).
