***American Motor 290, 343, 360, 390 & 401 Distributor Gear & Cam Gear Warning & Suggestions***

The AMC V-8 Family of engines has gotten a reputation for being very hard on distributor drive gears and occasionally suffer from premature "Cam-to-Distributor Gear" failure department and THIS IS A NON-WARRANTABLE ISSUE.

What causes this? This is our opinion/speculation.
1. No different than putting "old lifters on a new camshaft", new wear pattern trying to match up against and old wear pattern with poor/weak lubrication. High potential for cam of lifter to have material failure.
2. On AMC V-8's the distributor is up front & high on the engine, generally see poor oiling.
3. Due to government regulations, in recent years oil manufacturers have removed the zinc and many of the other additives from their motor oils (this has been a major problem for the new camshaft manufactures also over the years).
4. What I understand. The AMC engines with high miles are having the most issues, lower mileage engines seem to have the least trouble.

What's the fix....We are not sure.

But here is some of the things people are doing to try and combat the potential problem.
1. Replace the Cam mounted drive gear to go along with the new distributor gear (Basically new gear on new gear). Companies such as MSD clearly state/suggest both gears should be replaced at the time of installing one of their MSD distributors.
2. Heavily lubing gear with a Moly paste or equivalant at time of install.
3. (This is a major suggestion) Adding an oil additives with optimum amounts of ZDDP (Zinc and Phosphorous) for anti-wear protection prior to the install and numerous times there after.
4. And this ended up being the biggest suggestion-route most people are taking. Is to take the old distributor drive gear off the old distributor and install it on the new distributor.

Now we have SOLD many, many of these AMC HEI distributors and have had ONLY one person report back with any kind of a ISSUE.

AGAIN -  THIS IS A THIS IS A NON-WARRANTABLE ISSUE

2014 Kia Forte trims, slims, adds FlexSteer

Wed, 30 Jan 2013

The all-new 2014 Kia Forte debuted at the LA Auto Show in November, and it will hit dealerships in the first quarter of this year. Powertrains and trims are consolidated, the interior is updated and the small sedan will now feature something called FlexSteer, which adjusts the weight of the wheel from comfort to normal to sport. Equipment on the second-generation sedan will rival that of almost any of the luxury brands, even in base trim.
