SEAT hints at new Nurburgring lap record
Wed, 12 Feb 2014Repeated references to the Nurburgring during the press conference at the launch of the new SEAT Leon Cupra strongly suggest that the 280hp hot hatch has broken the front-wheel drive lap record. SEAT is waiting until the 2014 Geneva Motor Show before saying any more, but has already hinted that its new Leon Cupra is significantly faster than the current Renaultsport Megane record holder. Called the Stormster it's Ruf's second battery-powered Porsche, uses the same motor as the company's electric 911, weighs close to 2.7 tonnes and hits 62mph in ten seconds. No at all – in fact, earlier this week Ruf took its 676bhp GT2 to 229mph at the Nardo test track in southern Italy.
