Design Museum's Designs of the Year Awards 2012

The Design Museum opened its ‘Designs of the Year' exhibition yesterday in a celebration of global design innovation at its home in Shad Thames, London. Designs from across the world within seven categories – Transport, Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics and Product – have been nominated by industry experts, with the nominations now on show at the Design Museum. The first of the transportation nominations is the Autolib, a Parisian electric car commissioned by Paris' Mayor, Bertrand Delanoë.

Car Design News will be reporting live – via Twitter – from the Vehicle Design MA Degree Show 2010 at the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London on the afternoon of Thursday, 24 June (after 13:00 GMT).  The CDN team will be attending the show and interviewing the RCA's student designers, researchers, tutors, alumni, automotive experts and other professionals in attendance from the design community. Formula One: Whitmarsh says McLaren won't give up on 2011

McLaren-Mercedes team boss Martin Whitmarsh says his team wants to win the remaining races of this season while also taking the opportunity to test development parts for its 2012 car. Whitmarsh says that the conclusion of both the drivers' and constructors' title battles--with Red Bull Racing claiming both crowns--has made no difference to McLaren's approach. “There's not been a great distinction,” Whitmarsh said on Friday ahead of next weekend's inaugural Indian Grand Prix.
