Toyota GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept II – the new Toyota MR2?
Thu, 23 Jun 2011Toyota Sports GRMN Hybrid Concept II - named in honour of Hiromu Naruse The New Toyota MR2? Probably not. But the Toyota GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept II is certainly in the same mould as the MR2, and does show that Toyota hasn’t forgotten how to make an appealing car – even if it is a hybrid.
Hyundai move from Baboons to Kids to test quality
Fri, 05 Jul 2013Hyundai let a troop of 4 & 5 year olds loose on an i30 to test quality Last year, Hyundai let a troop of 40 safari park baboons loose on an i30 to see if, left to their own devices, they could trash Hyundai’s very well bolted together (just ask Martin Winterkorn) i30. It was a clever way to demonstrate that the i30 doesn’t just look good, but is made of a bit more than recycled baked bean cans and Fairy liquid bottles. The i30 came through the baboon test with flying colours (even the company tasked with cleaning it up after the baboons commented on the story that they were impressed by how unscathed the i30 was), but Hyundai has now come up with a quality test that makes the baboon adventure look like a walk in the (safari) park.
Storing classic concept cars is a huge hassle
Thu, 30 Jan 2014If you see a dazzling concept car at an auto show this year, consider this: Somebody is going to have to find the space to park it and maintain it in a heritage collection, perhaps until the end of time. Preserving this year's hits as the museum pieces of the future is one of the great backroom issues of the auto industry. If you need to see the first wood-paneled Honda Civic Country station wagon from 1980 for some good reason, Honda has one in storage in Japan.
