Mazda2 Activematic

It took Mazda an awfully long time to introduce the 2011 Mazda2 Facelift. In fact the very same Mazda2 nose was already running off the production lines in Thailand in October 2009, so it seems most peculiar that the facelifted cars are only just starting to arrive in UK showrooms.

Still, it’s not the end of the world and the 2011 Mazda2 does offer a decent-looking car with a practical choice of engines and trim. And now, juts three months after the 2011 facelift was announced, we get a couple of new models to play with.

The new Mazda2 Activematic comes with a 1.5-litre engine and four-speed transmission, managing 44.8mpg and 146g/km CO2. It’s not going to frighten the horses and set your hair on fire with a rather liesurely o-60mph of 11.9 seconds and a top speed of just over 100mph, but if you don’t want to use your left foot it’s a half-decent option.

Also introduced is the Mazda2 Tamura, Tamura being Mazda shorthand for a bit of a sport number – at least cosmetically. Building on the existing TS2 model the Tamura adds in 16″ alloys and a sporty body kit with side skirts and rear spoiler and twin headlights.

The Mazda2 1.5 TS2 Activematic comes in at £12,060 and the Mazda2 1.3 Tamura at £11,520.
