2012 Jeep Wrangler Freedom edition debuts

Freedom isn't free; it costs exactly $29,065 for two doors and $31,570 for four doors.

That's the cost for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Freedom edition, which is available in red, white and—you guessed it—blue. It also has military-inspired decals on the hood and rear fenders. An Oscar Mike badge sits on the front fender above the Wrangler logo, which—as any jarhead or Modern Warfare fan knows—is military speak for “on the move.”

Jeep will donate $250 from each Wrangler Freedom edition purchase to charities that benefit military members. Two of those charities are the Fisher House Foundation and the I Support Foundation. Fisher House provides homes for military families while a soldier is recovering; the I Support Foundation provides resources to returning troops.

The Chrysler Group is also offering a $500 cash allowance to military members who want to purchase a Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram or Fiat vehicle. Sorry, no breaks on the SRT Viper. Active military personnel are eligible, as are active military reservists, retired military personnel and retired military reservists.

The Freedom Jeep comes with 17-inch mineral gray wheels, a mineral gray grille, front and rear bumper inserts and body-color wheel arches and side steps. It also has black tail lamp guards, a Mopar fuel-filler door and a soft top with tinted windows.

Inside, buyers will get more military-inspired styling with Oscar Mike logos, rugged “tectonic” fabric, accent stitching and a chrome-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Freedom edition is on sale now and comes standard with power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, steering-wheel audio controls and the UConnect voice command system. All 2012 Jeeps are powered by Chrysler's Pentastar V6 that makes 285 hp.
