2013 Land Rover Freelander 2 facelift coming

Tue, 03 Jul 2012

Land Rover are working on a mild facelift for the Freelander 2 for 2013 as it comes towards the end of its shelf life.

It’s almost two years since Land Rover last facelifted the Freelander 2, a car that’s been with us since 2006, when they threw in some minor cosmetic tweaks, the first FWD Land Rover and gave us a more powerful diesel option.

Somewhere prior to that Land Rover had quietly dropped the V6 petrol engine (in the UK, at least), so adding a more powerful version of the 2.2 litre diesel made sense as did providing a lower price entry point in the FWD Freelander.

But with the Freelander 2 now in its twilight years – and a re-jigging of the Land Rover Range to better differentiate Land Rover models from Range Rover models already starting – the changes to the 2013 Freelander 2 are going to be just a small titivate.

In the mix for the 2013 MY are revised lights front and back with LEDs, a revised grill and, it would seem, the one thing that Land Rover missed out on the last facelift – a revised centre console.

The centre console of the Freelander 2 is very ‘old’ Land Rover, with lots of buttons and a low-rent feel, so it looks like Land Rover will be changing it to match the much slicker-looking centre console the Range Rover Sport got a couple of years ago.

All of which should be enough to keep the still strong selling Land Rover Freelander 2 fresh until the end of its days.
