2013 Range Rover Hybrid confirmed

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Jaguar Land Rover Director Hybrids and Electrification, Peter Richings, has confirmed the Range Rover hybrid will launch in 2013.

From the new, entry-level 3.0 litre diesel Vogue to the 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged Range Rover Autobiography,  all the new Range Rovers offer more performance, more off-road ability (or certainly easier off-road running thanks to the new automatic Terrain Response) together with lower emissions and improved economy.

But although the new 3.0 litre TDV6 Range Rover will offer 196g/km emissions and manage 37.7 mpg there is going to be a new Range Rover Hybrid that cuts emissions to just 169g/km.

Land Rover told us when they revealed specifications of the 2013 Range Rover that they were planning a hybrid Range Rover for launch in late 2013, but in the world of car launches timescales have a habit of being ‘flexible’.

But confirmation that the Range Rover Hybrid will arrive in 2013 has been made in a speech today by Jaguar Land Rover’s Director of Hybrids and Electrification, Peter Richings, which suggests the hybrid launch is well advanced and on track.

That will mean a a 3.0 litre V6 diesel with 286bhp and an integrated electric motor delivering an extra 47bhp with the ability to run just on the electric motor (at low load speeds and for a short distance) and, thanks to its combined 333bhp, scoot to 62mph in 7.4 seconds with emissions of 169g/km.

Now all we need is news of the long wheelbase Range Rover, and perhaps a more powerful version with the wick turned up to over 550bhp in the V8 Supercharged, to make the range complete. Although it’s possible any use of a more powerful V8 S/C will be limited to the 2014 Range Rover Sport.

But we hope not.
