Alfa Romeo teases the 4C. Why?

We’ve had good reason to report on the Alfa Romeo 4C since it arrived on the car landscape back at Geneva in March.

The 4C is exactly what Alfa should be doing to resurrect interest in the marque. They’ve done lots of good with the cracking little MiTo and the surprisingly good Giulietta. They’ve brought not only a modern Alfa design language to their more recent cars but also some proper doses of almost Teutonic build quality.

And, for front wheel drive cars, the MiTo and Giulietta are decent to drive too, and although we would prefer them to be rear wheel drive – well, certainly the Giulietta – we certainly understand why they’re not.

So the cars are going in the right direction at Alfa – apart from some very fuzzy thinking on the US relaunch – and the Alfa 4C looks set to move that along nicely. It looks good (in a modern Alfa way), it’s not just rear wheel drive it’s also mid-engined, and the 1750 MultiAir lump offers an enticing mix of fun performance and reasonable running costs.

And we know all this because we’ve seen the 4C. We have the photos of the 4C on Alfa’s stand at Geneva. We have a photo gallery and a video (both below). There’s not much else to know.

So why are Alfa ‘Teasing’ the 4C ahead of a production-ready reveal at Frankfurt next month? Is the production 4C so radically different to the Concept 4C it warrants it? We doubt it.

The simple fact is that it’s easy PR. We’ll run the Alfa 4C tease story, as will every other car media outlet on the planet. Alfa gets acres of coverage, and all thanks to a photo showing nothing we haven’t already seen apart from a grey paint job on the 4C.

The Alfa 4C tease is pointless. But we’ve covered it anyway. Just as Alfa knew we would.
