Another James Bond Aston Martin DB5 up for sale

Wed, 06 Feb 2013

Another Aston Martin DB5 used for the original 1960s Bond franchise is up for sale. One of only two DB5s with original gadgets it costs £3 million.

Back in 2010, R.M. Auctions sold one of the four original Aston Martin DB5 cars used by the James Bond franchise in films like Goldfinger and Thunderball for around £2.9 million, making the Bond DB5 the most expensive DB5 in the world. But that may change.

There was some doubt about whether the DB5 RM sold ever appeared in the original films (the original film DB5 disappeared in the 1990s and hasn’t been seen since) but still sold for close to its estimate. And there’s every chance this DB5 Bond car could do as well – or better.

Used for the promotion of Thunderball in the States, this DB5 was bought by JCB’s Sir Anthony Bamford who subsequently sold it on, and it last sold in 2006 for $2 million.

Said to be in great nick, this DB5 is the only one to be fitted with all the Bond gadgets – revolving number plates. bulletproof screen, radar, machine guns, smoke machine etc. – from inception, except the missing film DB5. The car that RM sold in 2010 had the gadgets retro-fitted.

The Bond DB5 is being sold by specialist dealers RS Williams, so if you have loose change down the sofa now may be the time to dig it out. Even if it costs ten times what Paul McCartney’s Aston Martin DB5 fetched.
