Audi TT Coupe 1.8 TFSI launches as entry-level TT

We wonder if Audi is starting to feel a bit of pain from Peugeot’s RCZ? If it is, that would explain the decision to introduce a new entry-level Audi TT starting at just £24,070 – the Audi TT Coupe 1.8 TFSI.
The TT Coupe now gets the option of the entry-level engine already found in the TT Roadster, which means that once again you can get a TT Coupe for less than the entry-level TT Roadster.
The 1.8 litre four-pot in the TT Coupe delivers up 158bhp and 184lb/ft of torque, which translates in to a 0-62mph of 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.
Perhaps more importantly, the new TT Coupe also manages to do 44.1 mpg and emits a relatively mild 147g/km of CO2.
The new TT Coupe comes in a choice of either Sport or S-Line trim and can be grabbed with either a six-speed manual ‘box or Audi’s seven-speed S-Tronic auto.
Despite the engine being a bit more parsimonious - and the price tag less painful - the 1.8 litre TT Coupe gets a decent level of kit, with 17″ alloys, Climate, leather and Alcantara trim and a decent sound system with iPod connectivity. And that’s just the TT Sport.
Jump to the TT S-Line – which will cost you a tenner short of an extra £2k – and you can add 18″ alloys, S-Line suspension, S-Line bits inside and out and xenons with LED running lights.
So now you can have a bottom-end Audi TT for a bit less than a top-end Peugeot RCZ.
