Audi to reveal 230hp S1

Audi is expected to reveal a 230hp quattro S1 at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The hot version of its A1 city car will be powered by the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine used in the Audi S3, and come with four-wheel drive as standard.

An Audi spokesman would not confirm the rumours, although the S1 is believed to have been spotted undergoing tests in Sweden.

It’s likely that the S1’s appearance will be fairly beefed up over the standard A1, with quad exhausts, a more flamboyant bodykit, bigger air intakes and a smattering of S1 badges.

Buyers will get a choice of three or five-door bodystyles, and the option of a manual or dual-clutch S tronic gearbox.

A source reportedly told Auto Express the S1 will be priced similar to the Volkswagen Golf GTI, so expect prices to start in the region of £27,000.
