BMW Individual debuts 760Li Sterling

Thu, 24 Oct 2013

If you want a BMW 760Li that's even more luxurious than the already luxurious stock 760Li, and don't want to take it to an armorer or coachbuilder who will stretch the rear doors and add a limousine partition to the inside, BMW Individual has something a little more low key on the menu.

BMW Individual is a customization division without the company, one that lets customers tailor their cars further by specifying unique materials for the interior, as well as create unique paint colors. The customization process doesn't stop there, as beyond the special trim selections offered by BMW Individual for each particular model, customers can go to BMW Individual Manufaktur, a division of BMW Individual, for even more personalized modifications to their cars. So BMW Manufaktur is essentially a further step up from the special materials and equipment that one can order for their car through BMW Individual. Choosing BMW Individual Manufaktur, customers can order such thing as special wheels, roof liners, a cooling box, or extra reading lights, to name a few option.

“The BMW Individual Manufaktur is not so much a place as an idea that becomes reality on a daily basis. That idea is total customer orientation. Here each vision of exclusivity is turned into reality” said Friedrich Nitschke, President of BMW M GmbH.

Drawing on their experience creating special cars for fashion designers, royalty, and fashion royalty, BMW is now offering the BMW Individual 760Li Sterling, inspired by silver manufacturers ROBBE & BERKING. BMW designers and ROBBE & BERKING silversmiths drew inspiration from each others' works in creating this special 760Li. This collaboration yielded silver touches on the exterior and interior, with the signature BMW grille and side trim elements being finished in 925 sterling silver. Likewise, the tailpipe embellisher, model badging, and the trim strip on the trunk lid are also finished in 925 sterling silver, as are BMW logos on the hood and trunk lid. On the inside, the use of silver extends the door handles and all the trim strips.

“On my first visit to ROBBE & BERKING, I was particularly impressed by the high degree of tradition-led handcraftsmanship and the rigorous pursuit of optimal solutions. That passion is also the hallmark of our shared product” said Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.

The trim surfaces also feature the punch mark of a crescent moon, which is a historic symbol for silver. The 760Li Sterling is finished in Singapore Grey on the outside, can also be ordered with several Merino leather combinations for the interior. And of course the level of options and equipment the BMW Individual customer chooses determines the final build price of the 760Li Sterling.

The silver elements can also serve a practical purpose, useful for bribing your way across a border crossing in Eastern Europe. Just don't leave it outside overnight unattended, not unless you want to have to order a new set of all the trim elements from BMW Individual.
