We revealed at the weekend that BMW were planning a special edition M5 to celebrate 30 years of the M5 and. as expected, BMW has now revealed the 30 Jahre M5 (30 years of the M5). As expected, the 30 year M5 gets a tweaked version of the 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 found in the regular M5, but builds on the M5 Competition Package model by throwing an extra 25bhp in to the mix for a total of 592bhp (600PS).

That extra power, the standard Competition Package and some tweaks to the software on the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox allows the M5 to scoot to 62mph in 3.9 seconds – not quite as quick as the Mercedes E63 AMG S, but a chunk better than a regular M5 – and a top speed of 199mph.

Cosmetically, the 30 year M5 comes with a Frozen Dark Silver paint job with dark chrome trim, a set of bi-colour 20″ alloys with 265/35 ZR20 tyres on the front and 295/30 ZR20 at the back, and interior finished in Alcantara and Merino leather and plenty of ’30 Jahre M5′ badges.

There will only be 300 examples built of the ’30 Jahre M5′ and we don’t yet know what the price will be or even if it will be offered in the UK.

But with a debut planned for the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month – and the UK a big market for the M5 – we’d be very surprised if BMW don’t make a chunk of the 300 available in RHD.
