Bentley SUV Geneva debut?
Sat, 11 Feb 2012Bentley SUV debut imminent?
Reports suggest that the Bentley SUV – Bentley’s first all-terrain car – will debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.
It seems certain that we will get a Bentley SUV at some point to mop up sales from wealthy car nuts in emerging markets and the Middle East. But as soon as next month’s Geneva Motor Show? It seems unlikely, but that’s what Autoweek are saying.
If the Bentley SUV does arrive at Geneva – or whenever it does turn up – it seems certain to turn up costing at least £150k and sporting Bentley’s W12 engine, after Bentley boss Wolfgang Dürheimer confessed that Bentley plan to build the ultimate luxury SUV to ‘make it clear whose car is boss.’
But even if the Bentley SUV offers the big W12, we’re also likely to see a ‘Sportier’ version of the luxury SUV with the new V8 from the Continental.
What does cast a shadow of doubt over the arrival of a Bentley SUV at Geneva is the likely arrival of the Lamborghini SUV at the same show. Both the Lambo and Bentley SUVs will almost certainly be built on VW’s go-to platform for big SUVs that already underpins the Cayenne, Q7 and Touareg and, although the Bentley SUV will focus on luxury and the Lambo SUV on performance, surely they’re too similar to arrive together?
So what will we get at Geneva? The Lamborghini SUV, the Bentley SUV or both?
