Bertone Jet 2+2 Aston Martin Rapide

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

Images and details of the Bertone Jet 2+2 Aston Martin Rapide have been revealed in anticipation of its Geneva debut.

Celebrating 60 years of collaboration with Aston Martin – which is also celebrating its centenary – the one-off wagon was commissioned by an unnamed Aston collector. The last Bertone Aston was the Vanquish-based Jet 2 shooting break from 2004.

At the front the Rapide's double frame grille has been enlarged and air intakes have been added either side. In profile Bertone's Rapide retains signature Aston Martin design elements such as the side strake and 'swan wing' doors, which rise upwards and outwards as they open. A chrome bezel has been added to frame the glasshouse.

Clearly the biggest changes are reserved for the rear. The extended roof and more upright tailgate transform the Rapide from a fastback into a sleek estate, while the lamps have been redesigned, encorporating a One-77-esque slim strip that emphasizes the width of the car. Additional vents have been placed underneath the new, C-shaped rear lamps.

Inside, the cockpit has a 2+2 configuration with two foldable back seats, while an electronically controlled double sliding floor covers the seatbacks when folded for improved capacity. Wood and glazed aluminum were chosen along with two-color leather upholstery.
