Brabus builds Mercedes-Benz B63S - 700 Widestar for Dubai Police

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

It's not about catching the bad guy, it's about driving something so cool that the bad guy pulls over just to stare in awe at your police cruiser. Until now that meant Mercedes-Benz G55 AMGs in Eastern European capitals orthat one Lamborghini Gallardo from Italy that's been making the rounds on the Internet so long that even your grandmother knows what jurisdiction in Italy it belongs to and which autostrades it patrols. Well, we suspect that the bar for most spectacular police vehicle has been raised once again with the delivery of the 700-hp Brabus B63S - 700 Widestar G-class to the Dubai police and its appearance at the Dubai Motor Show.

Brabus
There have been plenty of police G-wagens from AMG in the past, but this may be the first Brabus G-wagen police truck.

We're still not sure which piece of news is harder to believe: the fact that Brabus has created a 700-hp G-class, or that the Dubai police has purchased one for service use. Given the fact that Brabus has created cars with that range of horsepower in the past, we're going to have to be more surprised that a police force has purchased one of these and not, say, half a dozen Mercedes-Benz C-class sedans or wagons. Though, granted, the Dubai police already have a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. But those are sports cars. The B63S - 700 Widestar is a further reworking of the G55 AMG, a Mercedes-Benz truck not known for its lack of power, or lack of boxiness.

Brabus
A lucky number.

And speaking of power, those 700 horses are said to propel the B63S - 700 Widestar from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. Under the hood is the familiar 5.5-liter V8 helped by twin turbos, which allows the truck to reach 149 mph. Knowing where Brabus is based (in Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, just minutes from three autobahns), we have no reason to doubt these figures, and we can even picture the Brabus techs in white lab coats doing these speeds in the truck while scribbling away on their clipboards. The company's Dynamic Ride Control suspension, we suspect, plays no small part in keeping the G-wagen stable at those speeds. The truck sits on massive 23-inch Brabus "Platinum Edition" monoblock forged wheels, and of course features a very appropriate bodykit which actually looks rather restrained, all things considered.

What do you think, has the Brabus B63S - 700 Widestar taken the title of the world's most spectacular police car from the Lamborghini Gallardo Polizia Stradale?
