Bring a Trailer: 1974 Fiat X1/9 autocrosser

Thu, 20 Mar 2014

Serious buyers and tire kickers alike can find everything on Bring a Trailer, from all-out American classics to pre-war antiques and Italian muscle. Today's pick, however, is none of those.

This 1974 Fiat X1/9 autocrosser is for sale out of Garnedia, Calif., for the price of $25,000, or best offer. The best part is that you get to choose your drivetrain -- a nearly unheard of selling point, especially on eBay.

The seller says he can deliver the car with a fully built Fiat motor, ready to run in the Solo 2 GP class, or with a 250-hp Honda motor for the XP class. He also says it could go to an all-motor drag race, “AND kick butt.” His emphasis, not ours.

The Fiat motor is a fuel-injected, has a 15:1 compression ratio, S2 cam, small valves as per the class rules, extra titanium parts and a Colotti dog box. It requires race gas to run.

The Honda motor is a K20 head with a K24 bottom, aftermarket cams, tuned ECU, aftermarket plenum, rebuilt gearbox. Positraction is apparently part of that package.

The car held a number of records before the seller bought it, including the Fall Enduro in Oregon and at the Bible Creek Hill Climb, also in Oregon.

For the seller's part, he says he put in nearly $80,000 and 1,000 hours of time in. He ran it both in Los Angeles and San Francisco, towing it back and forth. The car won in the G-prepared class with the Fiat motor and as an X-prepared car with the Honda motor. Maybe if you sweeten the deal enough, the seller will throw in both.

The seller names his three most important upgrades as the Colotti box, the Megasquirt injections and Penske shocks.

Extras include a trailer, that's a big one, different wheels for each setup, extra Fiat transmission, extra Colotti parts and a handful of other bits and pieces.

Check this ride out at Bring a Trailer, and go to eBay to buy or ask the seller a question.
