Bring a Trailer: 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX rally car

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

This 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX rally car is featured on Bring a Trailer this morning, and it brings us right back to our rambunctious high school years. Sure, we didn't get our licenses until 1996, but that was the perfect time to find something a few years old--preferably with a turbocharger and a manual transmission—and hoon it to death. But while there were several Eclipses floating around our group of friends, none was as built as this car.

This Eclipse delivers approximately 300 hp from its 2.0-liter turbo engine, according to the seller. Mileage is listed as an original 54,200. The motor has an HKS engine management system, HKS camshafts, oversize turbocharger, steel crankshaft, forged pistons and larger injectors.

The seller says this car is complete, ready to race and has a clean California title.

This GSX has a racing fuel cell with aluminum housing, aluminum firewall, bladder and foam insert. It also gets a roll cage, extending from the front-strut towers to the rear-suspension towers.

The interior is completely stripped except for red Sparco racing seats with six-point harnesses, map lights, shift light and a few gauges. It looks a little beat up, but that's exactly how a rally car should look. The seller says the car is set up for rallying, but it could easily be converted to run on roads.

The seller is asking only $3,990 for the car, which seems like a small price to pay for a turnkey racecar, however old. The auction ends in five days, and the car currently has no bids.

C'mon, you Californians: Get out there, pick this up and go racing! Check it out on Bring a Trailer and bid on eBay.
