Bugatti Galibier: 2013 launch – but you knew that

Bugatti Galibier will be built

Well, I’ll go to the foot of our stairs, as my dad would have said. The Bugatti Galibier is going to get built and arrive in 2013. No less a source than Bloomberg says so. But we told you the Bugatti Galibier had the green light in 2009. And again in 2010.

The idea that Bugatti was going to go backwards, lose its mantle as makers of the fastest production car in the world and turn instead in to the makers of the most expensive saloon car on the planet, was always daft.

Bugatti’s assertion that they were looking at one of three cars as a possible way forward was always disingenuous at best; the plan, we believe, was always to turn Bugatti in to a three-car marque.

Bugatti, sources close to Molsheim have told us, are seeking a three-car line-up consisting of the Galibier, a replacement for the Veyron which is lighter and quicker than even the Super Sport, and a mega-luxury Grand Saloon car – a Royale for the 21st century.

Veyron production is scheduled to end next year, and the Galibier should be ready to launch late in 2012 as a 2013 car. We’d expect to see the Veyron’s replacement by 2014 and the new Royale by 2015. Which should give the world’s mega-wealthy plenty of choice.

A Bugatti for every occasion, no less.
