Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport (2010) first pictures

Mon, 05 Jul 2010

Lots of people haven't bought a Bugatti Veyron for many reasons - chiefly cost - but for the few who found the Bugatti supercar too slow, this is the answer: the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, aka the World's Fastest Car.

Whereas previous limited-edition Veyrons such as the all-black Sang Noir made do with cosmetic changes, the Super Sport Bugatti has done a lot more than just give it a new lick of paint.

Out go the large overhead air scoops, replaced by deep air ducts. The front air intakes are wider, the rear diffuser is larger and the double exhausts are now big enough for large animals to hibernate in. And get this: Bugatti has played with the engine to develop even more power.

Those scarcely believable figures are due to larger quad turbochargers and intercoolers, helping the Super Sport to reach achieve that title, stolen from the American SSC Ultimate Aero.

The original Veyron's top speed was never officially verified by the The Guinness Book of Records, but the team was on hand to measure this new Bugatti at VW's test track in Ehra-Lessien.

For those people who are now convinced that the Super Sport is actually the Veyron for them, it will be shown to the public for the first time at the Pebble Beach concours in mid August 2010, costing between €1.65-1.85m plus tax.

Only 30 will be made, with the first five labelled the World Record Edition, a snip at €1.95m. So that's a limited edition limited edition then.
