Bugatti WILL replace the Veyron to sell alongside the Galibier

A new Bugatti Veyron will sell alongside the Galibier

Did the world ever doubt there would be a replacement for the Bugatti Veyron? Did any of us really expect Bugatti would give up its crown as the maker of the world’s fastest car?

Did we think that VW would invest all the money they have in Bugatti just to make a fast saloon car? No, of course not.

But that’s been the Bugatti line from the beginning. The Veyron was designed to be a limited run car, and it has been. Not that they’re all sold, not by quite a chunk. Officially there are still at least 100 Veyrons to be sold. Unofficially, probably more.

We’ve been saying for years that the Veyron would be replaced, the Galibier would go in to production and there’s a strong chance there will be a  custom-built halo-model ‘Head of State’ limousine built in tiny numbers - just like the Bugatti Royale.

But Bugatti are coy about confirming their plans. They’re coy because it’s going to make it harder to shift the current Veyron if they confirm their plans for a new Veyron; a lighter, quicker, nimbler and more aerodynamic supercar which will put Bugatti way ahead of the competition from SSC (and others). But the plans are there.

And now Bugatti (and Bentley) boss Wolfgang Durheimer has come as close as anyone at Bugatti has to confirming the plans for a Veyron replacement.

In conversation with Car Magazine, Durheimer said ‘It is vital that Bugatti produces the world’s fastest car,’ which everyone knew. It’s Bugatti’s raison d’etre. Without it, they’re just another maker of fast cars – and there are any number of those.

Durheimer also went on to say that if a contender came along that challenged the Veyron Super Sport as the world’s fastest production car that ‘…Bugatti would respond’. With the Galibier four door saloon? No, of course not.

With a replacement for the Veyron, of course.
