Cadillac XTS Platinum at Detroit motor show 2010

Tue, 12 Jan 2010

This big beast is the Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept, unveiled at the 2010 Detroit motor show. It’s still a show car for now, but it will inspire a luxury Caddy limo that will go on sale in 2012.

Yes. With the STS and DTS selling slowly, GM will replace the pair with a single model in 2012. And that will be a plush exec limo inspired by this XTS Platinum concept car.

'The XTS Platinum concept is the next expression of Cadillac’s Art and Science execution philosophy, reflecting our drive to deliver the latest innovations in the most artful manner,' says Cadillac’s GM Bryan Nesbitt. 'We envisioned this concept as an automotive personal headquarters, using advanced technology to enable new levels of connectivity and luxury.'

That means the sharp creases and vertical lights we’ve come to know on the CTS, while under the bonnet is Caddy’s familiar direct injection 3.6-litre V6, plus a plug-in hybrid system. The powertrain provides 349bhp and 295lb ft, powers all four wheels, and the XTS can run on petrol or battery power alone, or a combination of the two. Inside there’s everything from Organic LED displays to laser-etched leather seats.
