Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept revealed

Fri, 08 Jan 2010

The Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept will appear at the Detroit Motor Show

It really does say something about the changing car landscape in the US that the reveal of a US hot hatch is something that people are sitting up and taking notice of. True, it may be badged a Chevy but this is a Daewoo Chevy, not a gas-guzzling big V8 Chevy. Still, never mind.

The one think that has taken us by surprise is that Chevrolet have chosen to stick with the Aveo name. The Lacetti become the Cruze and the Matiz morphed in to the Spark, but it seems that despite the less than appealing form of the current Aveo Chevrolet are intent on sticking with the name.

The Chevrolet Aveo Concept is a preview of what to expect from the next Aveo when it arrives sometime next year. The new Aveo has a moreĀ aggressiveĀ stance thanks to its wider track, elongated profile and a chunk of styling cues from the Spark. The interior takes its theme from the Cruze, but there are definitely hints of the Insignia and new Astra in there.

Power comes from a 1.4 litre turbo delivering 136bhp with a six-speed manual ‘box. As this is just a concept Chevrolet haven’t given us any performance figures.

We’ll see the Chevrolet Aveo RS at the Detroit Motor Show next week, so it’ll be interesting to see how it looks in the flesh. But it does seem a pretty credible effort. More info in the Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept Press Release.

Who’d have though it – a Yankee hot-hatch.
