The £92,000 Climax Sports Racer

British firm Climax has revealed it’s readying a road-going race-car to rival others in the niche like the Ariel Atom and the Caparo T1. Imaginatively named The Climax Sport Racer the new car gets powered by a Ford 4.6 V8 developing 345bhp with a supercharged version offering 415bhp. All that grunt is driven through the rear wheels by a 6-speed Graziano GT ME1 gearbox. And with the Climax Sports Racer weighing in at a very lightweight 2000lbs that is a lot of grunt.

The Climax enjoys styling reminiscent of the SLR Stirling Moss or the Veritas III, with nothing to remove the driver from the elements save a small wind deflector screen. The Climax gets double wishbones all round with settings for track or road and options including ceramic brakes, sequential ‘box and race harness.

The nearest you’ll get to the Climax is probably the Caparo T1 or the Atom V8. But the Climax is coming in at £92k, undercutting both the T1 and the V8 Atom by tens of thousand. Climax are intending building just 200 cars but we don’t yet know when they’re going to be ready to roll.

Climax man Ian How said:

“We believe that there is a growing market sector of enthusiasts who are not prepared to accept a compromise in terms of styling or performance but are looking for better value from a car that is not driven on an everyday basis.

Our research shows that there is increasing demand for performance cars that have striking design and exemplary build quality coupled with a high power-to-weight ratio, that can compete dynamically and in terms of exclusivity with more established supercar marques but, crucially, undercut them in terms of affordability by a sizeable margin.”

Let’s hope he’s right
