Design For the Real China contest seeks innovative solutions to everyday issues

Thu, 03 Oct 2013

The ‘Design for the Real China' contest has launched, challenging designers across all disciplines to develop innovative solutions to everyday problems that arise in China.

Delivering a brief of ‘Show us a solution to a China-located problem or opportunity you have identified', the competition organizers want to see entries that address localized problems or opportunities. Participants have to submit a short video explaining both the problem they've identified and how they'll solve it.

In transportation, environmental concerns are coming to the fore with the young generation of Chinese drivers, as demonstrated in the recent Volkswagen People's Car project. Eco-friendly design was one of the most important themes the public voted for as VW crowdsourced issues close to people's hearts.

Elegant and original transportation designs, whether they be new cars or inventive mobility solutions, are welcome, along with designs addressing issues such as safety, education, entertainment, communication and other industries.

It's not just limited to Chinese designers either. From all over the world, individuals and groups, design companies, manufacturing companies, students and those outside the design industry are encouraged to get involved.

Besides a cash prize, the winning design will receive an award, be featured on the website and be featured during Salone del Mobile in Milan and Beijing Design Week.
